Arthur Becker-Weidman and Deborah Shell follow up their previous book, 'Creating Capacity for Attachment' with this new book that focuses on parenting based on attachment theory. 'Attachment Parenting' was specifically written for parents interested in parenting and stems from Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy – a type of psychotherapy that focuses on treating trauma-attachment problems among children. In this technique, a stress on genuine empathy from the parent helps children create a “secure-base†in which they can feel safe, secure, and loved. Furthermore, the authors emphasize the importance of developing an environment which Daniel Hughes, PhD refers to as PLACE (Playful, Loving, Accepting, Curious, and Empathic) (see entry #s: 4115 & 4114). This is especially important for adopted and foster children who have become distant from their adoptive and foster parents due to the abandonment they faced from their biological parents.
