Lecture title: Applications of Being in Movement in working with incest survivors Format: Proceedings Volume 1, 7 pp
Describes body movement and somatic education work with survivors of child sexual abuse and incest as a useful complement to psychotherapy, as well as being effective on its own. He states the key issue is powerlessness and sets up 'experiments' for the student to work with which are simple body or movement situations that present a challenge. The student is taught how to monitor and evaluate their physical responses and how to construct new responses. 'Concrete Thinking', 'Responses', 'Deconditioning', 'Pelvic Softening', 'Feet Walking', and 'Love' also form part of this teaching process. Once they start feeling empowered, they can begin to dispense with the defenses and ' Muscle Tension', 'Pelvic Contraction', and 'Memory Suppression' form part of the later work. The article is incomplete. (CY)
