Lecture title: Choice points: Integrative multi-modality counseling Format: Proceedings: pp 236-259
While conventional psychotherapies fail to include the body as an important of clinical practice, body psychotherapies can also become too narrowly focused on the body. The article outlines a framework for an integrative approach to psychotherapy, clarifying choices available to the counselor at each moment using a six step protocol for counseling (creative dialogue, self-care, creating safety and rapport, heightening awareness, expanding choices, and integrating) that can be used to facilitate therapeutic change in six different areas of human functioning (behavioral, interpersonal, physical, emotional, mental and spiritual) and explored in a variety of contexts with regard to time frame, content focus, and therapeutic environment.
