Abstract

Investigates the effects of Rubenfeld Synergy Method with 41 fibromyalgia clients. Includes measures of depression, pain, health locus of control, self-efficacy, and fibromyalgia impact. Finds that compared to controls, Rubenfeld was rated as very helpful. It resulted in reduction in of pain in 1 of 4 analyses (experience of pain and pain interference). Effects on locus of control, self-efficacy, and depression were not significant. Problems with the fibromyalgia impact measure prevented findings on it.

Comment: A simple, straightforward investigation. It finds change in pain experience and paint interference. However, these represent 2 of 12 subscales on one measure (WHY MPI). The findings on the other 10 are not significant. In addition, changes on the other measures are also not significant. Should this be interpreted, then, as a positive finding, or as a glitch in what is a pattern of negative findings?
