Abstract

Presents a case example of functional relaxation therapy with a 55 yr old female inpatient whose primary symptom was severe difficulty in swallowing. In this case, a single session of functional relaxation achieved a dramatic improvement in the patient's hysterical symptom and general condition. Speculations concerning the reasons for the effectiveness of the therapy session are discussed. (0 ref) ((c) 1999 APA/PsycINFO, all rights reserved)
