Abstract

In this audio CD, “Tapping In: A Step-by-Step Guide to Activating Your Healing Resources Through Bilateral Stimulation,” EMDR expert Laurel Parnell, PhD takes listeners “step-by-step” through the principles of EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing). Parnell, a clinical psychologist, takes a very patient, detailed, and thus, effective route to explain EMDR and resource tapping so that people are
able to learn the protocol effectively and perform the therapy on themselves. Initially created to treat post-traumatic stress disorder, EMDR is now utilized to treat individuals with all sorts of dilemmas and traumas, from fear of speaking in public to fear of flying. The CD is an eclectic piece of work that includes both the therapy aspect as well as the science/research aspect. Parnell is patient, genuine, and passionate in the CD as she explains the principles of the system, making the CD a useful introduction to
the vast world of EMDR. She speaks slowly and calmly, making it feel as though she is in the room right with you, which is perhaps due to Parnell’s own spirituality and passion on the topic. Although
Parnell’s intentions are to provide a guideline for individuals so that they can learn to tap into their own safe space and cope with the anxiety on their own by realizing that the resources lie within the very individual, she doesn’t leave your side until you are absolutely ready. (Nisha Kochar)
